what we keep, why, and how to get rid of it

Last updated: July 31, 2026

Knight School (getgoodpeasant.com) analyzes chess games you have already played and turns them into practice. To do that we have to hold some information about you. This page says exactly what, in plain words. No part of it is written to be skimmed past.

The short version: we keep your account details, the chess handles you connect, the games we pull from those platforms, and what you do in the trials. We do not sell any of it, we do not run advertising, and we do not load third-party tracking. Payments go through Stripe and we never see your card number.

What we collect

Your account

  • Email address — optional. A Guest account has none at all, and a first-time Lichess sign-in has none until you add one.
  • Password — stored only as a one-way hash. Nobody here can read it, including us.
  • Display name and time zone — the name we greet you by, and the clock your dates and your weekly reset are read in.
  • Your plan, when you signed up, and whether you have asked us to stop emailing you.

Guest accounts

A Guest can try the trials without signing up. To stop one person from creating thousands of them, we store a scrambled fingerprint of the network address the Guest was created from — a one-way hash mixed with a secret. We do not store the address itself, and the hash cannot be turned back into one.

Your chess accounts and games

  • The Lichess or Chess.com username you connect. We check that the handle exists on that platform; we do not currently confirm that it is yours, so only connect a handle you actually own.
  • For Lichess, an access token if you sign in that way. It is encrypted where it is stored and is never written to our logs.
  • The games we pull from those platforms: moves, clock times, ratings, openings, opponents and results. These are games you already played on public sites; we fetch them, store them, and analyze them so you do not have to re-import every week.

What we work out from your games

Engine evaluations, puzzles built from your own positions, your attempts and scores, your streaks, which openings you know, your weekly results, and any banners or achievements you earn.

How you use the site

  • Which trials you open, and which outside learning links you click.
  • Any share card you generate, so the boast reflects a real record.
  • A copy of each email we send you — subject and body — so we can tell you what went out and when.

Payments

Stripe handles every payment. Your card number, expiry and security code go to Stripe and never touch our servers. We keep only the subscription record: which plan, whether it is active, and when it renews.

Why we hold it

WhatWhat it is for
Account detailsSigning you in and knowing which plan you hold
Connected handle + gamesThe entire product — there is nothing to analyze without them
Analysis and attemptsShowing progress over time, and not re-asking a puzzle you solved
Hashed network fingerprintLimiting Guest abuse. Nothing else.
Usage and email recordsFixing what is broken and answering "did that email send?"
Subscription recordBilling, and unlocking what you paid for

Who else sees it

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. It reaches these outside services only, and only for the reason given:

  • Lichess and Chess.com — we ask them for your games, using the handle you connected.
  • Stripe — payment processing. Their privacy policy governs what they do with it.
  • Google Fonts — this site loads two typefaces from Google's servers, which means Google receives your network address when a page loads. That is a plain consequence of how the fonts are delivered and we would rather say so than not. The Android app bundles its fonts instead, so it does not do this.
  • Our own error-reporting tool — a private service we run ourselves, used to catch faults. It is not a third-party analytics product and it is not shared with anyone.

There is no Google Analytics, no advertising network, no social tracking pixel, and no data broker of any kind on this site.

Inside Knight School

The site's operator can see account records and your analysis in an administrator view — that is what makes support possible. If you work with a tutor through the site, the tutor's reporting view is pseudonymous: it shows the coaching signal without identifying you by name or address.

Cookies

Two things, both necessary:

  • A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in. It is not readable by page scripts.
  • A small flag in your browser's local storage recording only that you are signed in, so the first screen paints correctly instead of flashing the wrong page. It contains no personal information.

We set no advertising or tracking cookies, which is why this site has no cookie banner asking you to accept any.

How long we keep it

Account records, connected handles, stored games and your analysis are kept for as long as your account exists, because the product's whole point is comparing this month to last. Sign-in tokens expire on their own. Copies of emails we sent you are kept as an operational record.

Deleting your account

Email hello@getgoodpeasant.com from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We will remove your account and the data tied to it — connected handles, stored games, analysis, attempts, and your subscription record — and confirm when it is done.

You can disconnect a chess account at any time from The Keep without deleting anything else, and you can turn off non-essential email from The Keep or from the unsubscribe link in the footer of every one we send.

Children

Knight School is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has an account here, write to us and we will remove it.

Your choices

Depending on where you live you may have the right to see a copy of what we hold, correct it, or have it deleted. Ask us and we will do it — we do not require a legal demand first, and we will not charge you for it.

Changes to this page

If we change what we collect or who we send it to, we change this page and move the date at the top. A change that materially affects you gets an email as well, not a silent edit.
